roll the dice are back with a new full length album, ‘born to ruin’. the swedish duo, which consists of malcolm pardon and peder mannerfelt, are established musicians in their own right. pardon’s background producing scores for film and television is reflected in roll the dice’s cinematic aesthetic. while mannerfelt’s acclaimed third solo album ‘controlling body’ landed in 2016, he counts the likes of fever ray among his producer credits.

chicagoan artist vincent floyd has been releasing music for 27 years now. with stand-out records for the legendary dance mania and some more recent outings through amsterdam connaisseurs rush hour recordings, vincent floyd crafted a 4-track package of original cuts, which will be released as the seventh instalment in the pulp series. the vigorous sounds of “circles (dub)” consist out of loose percussion, piercing synth work and a snappy vocal that cuts through at just the right moments. in the classic style of a sizable amount of dance records throughout the earlier days of dancefloor-music, an instrumental version of “circles” is including on the a2 position. “skewed reality” is an extravert piece of music that revolves around an emotive synth lead and nicely timed drums with a very human feel to them. the soothing pads form the back bone of this journey through exalted melodies. “morning storm” serves as the pulp07 grand finale. in this cut vincent again showcases his ability to mould many melodic elements into a cohesive sounding piece of music. “morning storm” is a bright piece of work with delicate melodies and beautiful playful drum patterns.

first ever reissue of “rito esclavo”, pedro laza’s eighth album as leader of los pelayeros, originally released on discos fuentes to great success in 1961. . this early fuentes classic lp is distinguished by high quality engineering that holds up brilliantly more than half a century later, with bright and deceptively intricate interlocking brass featuring a distinctive reed section, rolling tropical percussion and a wide variety of caribbean rhythms from both colombia (cumbia, porro, paseaíto, fandango) and cuba (cha-cha-chá, mambo).

benjamin brunn is back with two long turn jams. -i dream, sometimes i think- is a brunn signature track build on a detroitish bass line that fits perfectly to bright, melodic synth chords. -(t)issue - a shoe - uwe- on the flip side is made of reduced pattern music slowly growing into solid space loops. growers in full effect.

rich la bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate new york born in 1946. at age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered monk, mingus and art blakey. in 1965 rich moved to ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. after the band dissolved, he moved to nyc and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical godspell. in the late 70s la bonte moved to hollywood with shari famous, released a a few 7” singles as dada2, and started flatdisk records, a vinyl subsidiary of dave gibson s moxie record company.

it s all going on for cervo at the moment. having just launched the banana hill label with an excellent record from majid bekkas (that he also did an edit for), the uk-based producer has now been snapped up by marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell label to drop more of his worldly edit science. on rhythm leads the charge with confidence on the a-side, using a bubbling, afro-infused disco-funk source and making it lean and mean for the floor. there s a distinctly nigerian lilt to the guitars that cluck away through dancing dream, but it s accompanied by bright chiming chords and a solid beat that will stand up to any contemporary house jam. banku is even more explicitly modern, although still layered up with gorgeous vocals and percussion from africa

the second edition of vicarious memories by these hidden hands realises 5 finely crafted remixes of last years expansive lp of the same title. this version features powerful reworks from telefon tel aviv, hypoxia, lustmord, jk flesh and death in vegas. telefon tel aviv offers up his reinterpretation of glasir a solemnly disconcerting reduction of the original flooded with warmth, depth and space. this is followed by a contribution from hypoxia aka the illustrious drumcell, who makes his mark on the beautiful vocalised track telepath, imparting a heavy sense of melancholia and depth on to the listener. a dark atmosphere is woven by lustmord on his remake of socotra, with its enveloping celestial melodies and ominous reverberating drones that unfold throughout. jk flesh boosts the energy of the release with his distinguishably distorted mix of industrial, dub and power electronics that shuffle and roll the listener along this spectrally bright reincarnation of dendera light. british producer death in vegas embraces the mystical facet of angkor, patiently exploring serene soundscapes with much depth and colour.

ed davenport continues his full-spectrum techno experiments as inland with an elegant new ep on counterchange entitled coriolis. the title track coriolis is a moody 10 minute voyage with a morphing synth array at its core - bright, detuned stabs are layered upon tough rhythmic foundations. the jagged metallic lead builds, unearthing harmonic bleep accents and syncopated fx swells, before folding in on itself leaving the effective tribal drum section to ride on. d10d3 plows forward with an urgent staccato sequence, segueing into italo-horror filter sweeps and noise-laden moments of drama. finally tsereteli is a more reduced modern dub study, continuing ed s long running fascination with tranced-out time stretching and after-hours vibes. the 9th release on the label, the record features cover art by uk artist guy archard and is pressed on 180g vinyl.

never underestimate a quiet guy. soft spoken and well-mannered alexander pletnev moved 3 years ago from the russian city of st. petersburg to the lithuanian capital of vilnius. that has been more than enough time for him to make the city his own. a co-founder of a hip barber’s shop that also hosts an improvised vinyl second hand corner, not to mention a cozy little bar where he can be found serving a quirky selection of beers, alex soon embraced influences filtered through the local nightlife institution ‘opium club’. his production powerhouse pletnev explores darker territories and far-out music lands untouched by his bright and melodic creative alter ego - ponty mython. the st. bones ep follows his well received and strongly selling offerings on meda fury and bahnsteig23. the ep’s two tracks, of contrasting mood and tempo, are accompanied by two top drawer remixes from the japanese tailor of sound and taste ryota opp and on-the-rise fellow st. petersburg producer and selector, inga mauer.

next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

enter tsuruda. championing one of the most innovative and heartfelt collectives in the los angeles area, this salt lake city native has a very bright future ahead of him. expertly combining the hard-hitting percussion of trap, the swagger and depth of hip hop, and a style of sampling and melody creation all his own, tsuruda truly brings a unique and gripping sound to the stage. in a scene where true originality and heart is often difficult to find, tsuruda follows a similar path to artists like ta-ku and mr. carmack. he understands his love for music and his own struggle, and brings them into the light for his listeners. following his extensive body of work be sure to look out for his album “move”, dropping on noisia’s division imprint soon.

picking up right where ep 1 left off, ep 2 kicks things off with a bang. first up is catz n dogz and yotam avnis for blakkat a high pace burner ideally suited for dance floors from panorama bar to under the leds of watergate and every club in-between. the duo return with the bright version of afterglow for the second cut on ep 2 and aptly titled, it pushes an intense, glitter filled ride to its limits. embarking onto the b-side, o.a. peas from heavy hitter eats everything & lord leopard take a trip down memory lane with a heavily sample based feel good tune that will absolutely demolish dance floors worldwide. rounding out the ep is a final collaboration between catz n dogz and reno wurzbacher with ma people and its by far the smoothest and most laid back tune of the bundle, but never does it let you rest as a mesmerizing groove and lush atmospherics tell a deep, complex tale of late nights and early mornings.

james dexters star has been rising for a while now - the young brit turning out killer tracks regularly on the back of hugely well received dj sets. on his second outing for dessous recordings, dexter does what he does best - four slices of deep, funky and vibing house music for the floor. lead track drift is typical of dexters flair for subtle, edgy sounds, wrapped inside a warm and inviting groove. elements come and go, but the shuffling, infection feel runs throughout. take me is a more upfront vibe with a seriously bumping groove - dexter clearly well versed in the roots of house music from chicago. ‘whose rules ?’ is a snappy, bright and lively production, with a sub bass that will troubler some of the world’s best club systems in the coming months. the light, jazzy vocals offsets the groove perfectly - sure to be a big tune for a wide variety of djs. the last track of the release is disco deep - and it pretty much does exactly what it says - a swung, groovy feel punctuated by disco claps and balearic flourishes that will sound as good on the beach as in the basement.

new years deal - delsins next trick is a debut double 12 from sentomea, an amsterdam native, real name sander schuurman, you might not have heard of but a real synth freak. exclusively producing his music in hardware-based live takes, and that gives rise to perfectly imperfect stuff that feels visceral and alive. often making music with a visual connection, this ep is full of versatile 909 beats and fizzing electronic textures. relative solace is up first and is a frosty house trip with bell textures and melancholic strings sounding all celestial and heavenly. wander is all about a sludgy 909 groove being lit up with bright strings and icy hi hat ringlets as dissonant pads stretch and skew all about the arrangement then fortitude boogie has classic detroit pads, a lovely broken rhythm and a funkateer bassline that makes the whole cut dance and emotional dance. fluid is more stripped back and clean, with rubbery 909 drums plodding below w atery, gurgling synth sounds up top and this most expressive and textural ep closes with the experimental fm synthesis that is matter with its raw, off beat grooves and glassy surfaces, and finally reminiscent, a horizontal, star gazing cut that encourages you to lay back and day dream in the grass.

one in a million leads with a bright 90s garage house beat reminiscent of disclosure before breaking into the kind of danceable indie-pop swagger that will excite fans of lcd soundsystem and hot chip. replete with remixes from zomby and playgroup this 12inch sets a precednt for olsson 12inch release where he kindly asks his heros to reimagine his work. in this case two of electrtonic musics most exciting and consistent names step up.

the cocoon recordings very own inhouse compilation series dots and pearls is back once again and takes us on a tour to the expected sounds of the upcoming spring season. frankfurt based christian burkhardt starts the selection of four exclusive and previously unreleased tracks. his -karambolage- breathes spring air and creates an early summer feeling par excellence. this tune will even turn gray and rainy april weather into bright sunlight. on spot with playful and positive harmonies and a very subtle 80 s synthie-pop flavour. this one here definitely makes us want more! next in line is argy, one of our most long standing cocoon recordings artists. his -how late it was, how late- has an undeniable 80s retro charm, too however it follows a completely different direction than burkhardts -karambolage-. this one refers strongly to an early 80s acid sound and reminds us of great productions such as -on and on- by jesse saunders. we cannot tell how far argy s reminiscences goes back but for the ones who know: -how late it was, how late- will bring you back to the great times of labels like rams horn and their rational youth s -dancing on the berlin- wall. brave and surprising at the same time and above all: -übercool-! with -baroon- by markus fix follows another acid track - however, this one has a far more epic flavour full of warm analogue strings and based on a hypnotic arrangement. fix -baroon- is defintely less retro than argys and burkhardts contributions - a deep tech house gem made for the first sunrises of the upcoming allnighter open airs. with -euphrasia- jim jules accelerates slightly but goes also deeper at the same time. his production follows the cinematic mood of markus fix but paints a darker picture. this one takes us on an intensive musical journey. deep, slightly gloomy and extremely hypnotic, -euphrasia- is almost captivating and bewitching and a perfect conclusion for this highly diversified fourtracker.

the next cosmos release comes from salomon dunkan, a mysterious and unknown producer who serves up two tantalising tracks... . android (adamantium mix) is a slow and percolating house track with a rugged acid line and sharp percussive knives cutting up the rubbery kick drums below. swirling pads add a cosmic atmosphere and there whole hits slowly but surely builds to a raging and intense peak of bristling hits and gurgling synths. it s controlled chaos and then tacchi a spillo treads a more direct path. again the high hats are bright and sharp, the mood is very sci-fi and the bass lines rumbled down low. like a deep space odyssey this one travels far and wide and grows ever more physical and jacking as it goes on.

what can you expect? take the best fusion-band ever (chick coreas return to forever), some james brown funk, synth-fun like tangerine dream and even a bit of hardrock, and youre getting close. this is zappa, the flemish zappa: cool,funny, sad, difficult,no record for those who love the traditional verse-chorus-verse, and so probably as uncommercial as it can get

kiki gyan’s star didn’t burn long, but it burned bright. drafted into the afro funk super group, osibisa, at 15, he was millionaire by 18 and regarded as one of the best keyboardists in the world by 21. ‘life was good, man,’ he told journalist kweku sakyi-addo. ‘too good!’. in 1983 he dived head first into the new york party scene. he took a lot of drugs, spent a lot of time in clubs and got together a team of crack local musicians to record feelin’ alright, his third and final solo album. all the kiki gyan trademark elements are present and correct. the album is unique a blend of highlife music with electronic funk and disco. ‘rosemary’ follows the formula most closely and was a hit across nigeria and ghana. but on ‘give it to me’, ‘love to love you’ and the title track, you’ll hear a slicker, boogie-influenced sound that has made feelin’ alright one of his most sought-after albums. kiki gyan would never hit such heights again. his addictions eventually took hold and he died aged 47, destitute and alone. feelin’ alright remains one of the brightest stars in his extraordinary constellation.

hannulelauri have lain silent for more than half a decade, the finnish duo seeming to have disappeared into musical memory. but thankfully this is not the case. resurrected, the pair return with a quartet of space inspired disco from their vaults. starting off with the warming plinks of -earth-, the duo then dazzle with the laser show of -crossing-. the flip keeps the goodness flowing. -blinds- strips back basslines to let bright bars and strings shine before the playful whimsy of -dream- closes. tracks from a decade ago and still sounding as fresh as ever.
